Revisiting Sufism

Framing Key debates on Sufism in the context of major philosophical and postmodern thoughts, the book calls for revisiting the classical heritage of Sufism and clarifying key charges – deviation from the Revealed Norm and alien origins/influences, indulgence in moral/spiritual transgression, ecstasies or airy abstractions – against it. It is in this context that key debates surrounding Kashmir’s Reshi-Sufi legacy are addressed as well. The book invites the reading of Sufism as a path to reclaim wonder and beauty and as such it should interest every seeker. It foregrounds a transtheistic reading of Sufism that involves openness to the other, doing everything as it should be ideally done, cultivating beauty, sincerity of purpose, the science of stations/virtues, freedom, propriety, and giving everything its due.
